RyUjin 龍神

LOCATION / MELBOURNE

I was asked to add some depth to a new home gym renovation. The client was big fans of Japanese & tattoo culture. Being a huge fan of Japanese folkore. I’ve incorporated traditional irezumi styles and idealogy into this mural; such as the geisha, hannya, tora, kitsune & Ryujin.

Ryujin (龍神) was one of the most important dragons of Japanese mythology. He was the god of the sea that ruled the ocean and protected Japan. He was also the king of all dragons. Ryujin is part of many Japanese stories. Like the sea, he has a very changing nature: sometimes he unleashed great devastation (tsunami, storm...) but he was also a benevolent entity that helped and rescued people.
